Trailer of new movie 7 Khoon Maaf by Vishal starring Naseeruddin Shah, Irrfan Khan, John Abraham, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Russian actor Alexander Dyachenko, Annu Kapoor and Vivaan Shah. And as it looks like Vishal has created a new theme for the same. I have also heard that Ruskin Bond has a hand in the script and also plays a cameo in the film. Interesting ha? lets see it. -

Paanch: Avoid Life.It kills you in the End
Apna Kaam bunta, bhaad main jaaye junta…..
Thanks to torrents, I was able to see the most talked Hindi movie “Paanch”. The directorial debut of Anurag Kashyap, the movie has been stuck with Censors for quite some time now. Meant to be released in 2000 but the censor board refused to certify unless it toned down drastically. not ready to alter the story line, Anurag Kashyap refused to move. The film was finally passed by Censor Board With an Adult Only Certificate in 2003 but the producers, Tutu Sharma and Padmini Kolhapure, seemed to have some sort of a fallout and refused to release the film. It is still unknown why the film was never released.
Anyways, talking about the movie,it is the story of a rock band comprising of Luke, Murgi, Joy, PornD, and Shuili. Kay Kay plays Luke: the leader here. a highly dominating and impulsive character . The story is a noir genre thriller. The five hatch a simple plan to ‘kidnap’ a friend, with his consent, for money from his rich-but miser dad. Things go wrong when Luke murders one and what follows is a gory tale of murders, betrayals etc. The censor board objected that the movie didn’t have any ‘positive characters’; but when there are grey shades in every person then why one want to portray the world has white & show everything as nice. The film shows dark mindsets in people who happen to be musicians.
The story starts with a narrative which goes into a flashback. A 3-hour long movie (my friends thought it was tiring and long) but it grips you time and again with a twist. The Screenplay & acting are simply superb. The acting by everyone is good. Kay Kay Menon is simply superb performing the role of Luke, who is a maniac & a Jim Morrison fan. Nobody can tell that this is his first movie. His performance is spectacular. Aditya Srivastava, Vijay Maurya and Joy Fernandes support him well. The only disappointment in the movie was Tejaswini Kolhapure. I would have preferred a lot more Bitchy girl than her. Dialogues in the movie are simply superb. A very roadside language the dialogues hit it you time and again on the situations. Luke’s wall says: “Franz Kafka, Van Gogh, Michelangelo were unrecognized geniuses in their life. Recognize me!!”
The music is distinctive Indian rock songs . Vishal Bharadwaj and Abbas Tyrewala makes the music a part of the movie. Songs, like ‘Tamas’, ‘Khuda hun mai’, and ‘Kya din kya raat’ are simply brilliant. This is Indian rock it portrays.
It is said that after the movie was refused certification by Censor Board in 2000, Anyurag Kashyap went in to a major depression and would often walk wandereslly in the streets and start crying at 2 or 3 in the night. There were rumors too that the movie was loosely based on the real life Josi-Abhyankar Murders that took place in Pune almost 3 decades back.
Dunno if I can call this movie the best debut movie I have seen, but it makes its own place. The movie will live up to its hype if you ignore its length. A brilliant movie. I know I am partial towards Anurag Kashyap, but if he is a class apart, then I can’t help. This movie will show you making of a master director. Watch the movie for Anurag’s Screenplay & story telling, dialogues with perfect timing, watch it for KK Menon’s LUKE. I am not entitled to review such kind of movie. I can only tell you that download it and DO WATCH IT.
The movie begins with this saying: Evil is perhaps a child. and we all have child within us. How we unleash the child is the thing now
Ishqiya- 2010: After Dhan Te Nan It’s Ibn-E-Batuta
Two Hooligans, one temptress and a rustic setting of a village makes the music of Ishqiya a class apart. The two hooligans on the music side- Vishal Bharadwaj & Gulzaar Saab recreates the magic together. These two hooligans have been giving some fantastic music in the past and they still don’t fail to deliver here. The philosophical lyrics of Gulzaar S’aab along with the music of Vishal has become a combination that will make something abstract, unique and definitely offbeat.
One thing I have always wondered that what does Gulzaar Uncle thinks & write. I need a guide book to understand those lyrics. But whatever said and done, the lyrics are what he sees beyond imagination. Saying this comes my first favourite song of the year 2010 -“Dil to Bachcha Hai Ji” by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Studded with its own Sufi elements & the retro-style the song has hooked me and will surely have you hooked right from the start. With the claps, harmonium etc Vishal sets the tone very nicely. And with lyrics like :
Hai zor kare kitna shor kare… bewaja baton pe aiwen gor kare…. Dil sa koi Kameena nahi ..koi to roke koi to toke…is umar main abh khao ge dhoke…Dar lagta hai ishq karne main bhi…Dil to bachcha hai ji….thoda kachcha hai ji…. dil sa koi kamina nahi…
I don’t know how kamina my dil is..But this song is a winner.
Now Comes the song which is rocking the television channels these days. Ibn-E-Babatuta. Sung by other two hooligans- Sukhwinder Singh & Mika, the duo is creating a riot here. The song is a story of Ibn Batuta a14th century traveler who is known for the account of his travels and excursions. So yes it’s his shoes doing Churrr and Phurrr..with another abstract & comical lyrics the song is going to be there for some time now.
If Vishal can do something then his better half is not far behind. Rekha Bharadwaj comes up with a ghazal “Ab Mujhe Koi”. Its after a long time I am hearing ghazal in a movie. And this lady has proven her versatility. With a song like Namak & now this, she actually proves her mettle. Song about broken dreams and life’s longing has a very lazy touch to it with some more imaginative lyrics like: Aankh ke ek gaon mein , raat ko khwaab aate the , jhulo se behte the , bole to kehte the , udte khwabo ka aitbaar kahan. It’s a conventional ghazal set to a rather unconventional background consisting of guitars, keyboard and drums.
You just get down with this that Badi Dheere Jali starts. A wonderful fusion of western and eastern instruments it is a true classical number. I don’t understand classical so much, hence I stand no right to comment on this. But still for a hearing its soothing. Rakhi’s vocal is as usual strong and perfect match to the music.
There are few remixes in the album but I don’t wanna talk about those. They can be given a pass easily.
Overall, the original numbers in the song are a package for a soulful listening. The deadly duo of-Vishal & Gulzaar does it again. The album might not have a mass appeal but still it has its own audience and the duo has its own following which is going to get better. Now let’s await the movie which are other two hooligans- Naseer Bhai & Arshad Warsi.
Kaminey- A Hollywoodish Movie in Indian Flavour
Talk about Tarantino..Talk about Guy Ritchie….but now you have to sit up and talk about Vishal Bharadwaj in the same breath. He has created a film that’s so different from the Indian movies we’ve witnessed so far. And what also in Hollywood style.Year after year movies come & go which bring with it a lot of expectations & hype but not all keep up to their expectations.
After Swine Flu scare, my plan getting cancelled thrice, getting ditched by friend twice..I finally saw the movie last night. A movie which in a survey done by Amir himself pimped 3 Idiots in the most awaited film of the year, never disappointed me. Name Shahid, Priyanka, Amol Gupte, Chandan Roy Sanyal ( who plays Mikhail) all the Kaminey’s have performed their role at their best. Vishal Bharadwaj builds up a whole host of characters which gives you an impression that there are parallel tracks running along in the film. Kaminey is bold, stark, funny and unpredictable and that’s what works in its favour alongwith the great backgorund music which keeps the pace with you.
Kaminey goes by a strange turn of circumstances all the parallel tracks converge slowly to become one cohesive track. Brothers who’ve not met for years are forced to meet again; love for the beloved gets tested, cops turn as dangerous as criminals themselves and there is blood everywhere. All this happens and what keeps the strings tied to a common knot is not a person, but an object- a guitar. The movie takes some time to hook you, but be rest assured that once you are hooked, you are hooked till the end.
Let’s talk about Shahid now. We’ve seen Shahid pitching in a sincere act in his earlier films, but Kaminey is his best performance till date. His double role in KAMINEY is just exemplary. Whether it be the “F ko F” bolne wala Charlie or the “HHH” stammering Guddu, Shahid performs both exceptionally well. For me Charlie steals the show there. Priyanka performs her role of Sweety very well. For me the actors who steal the show are Amol Gupte & Chandan Roy Sanyal. Amol Gupte performs the role of Bhope Bhau is a fantastic fashion. He should now think of returning back to mainstream Cinema. And the new Kamina Chandan Roy Sanyal playing Mikhail leaves you coing back for more. For me this newcomer is something to watch in future. This guy can act. His death after halftime literally disappoints me as I wanted to see more of Mikhail. Tenzing Nima leaves a solid impression. In short, the cast is perfect name anybody.
Vishal Bharadwaj …I have been a big time fan of Vishal. He scored brilliantly with Omkara He scores brilliantly here too in terms of managing the delicate balance of using so many characters and still ensuring cohesiveness. He made Saif act and immortalized Landga Tyagi. This time he makes Shahid act two roles and that also fantastically. Another reason where Vishal scores is the music, which is vibrant, pulsating and in sync with the movie. It keeps you at the edge of your seat. There’s another star in Kaminey and that’s ‘Dhan Te Nan’. Your heart starts beating faster every time you hear this in the background. Every song in the movie is well woven and fantastic. The cinematography and dialogues also involve you more with the movie. The Scene when Chandan Roy & Amol Gupte talks before Mikhail is killed is simply superb.
To cut it short, KAMINEY is a film with an attitude. Like it or leave it, but you’d never be able to ignore it. You can’t afford to take your eyes out even to reply to that SMS. Because if you do that you will miss something and trust me you don’t want to do that.So Dhan Tan nan tana nann…
Kaminey Music Review- All Hail Vishal
Dhan Tan Nann…..Tan Nann…Here Comes Kaminey-I mean Vishal Bhardwaj. Directed by Vishal, the music is given by the man himself. Vishal Dadlani of the Vishal- Shekhar fame will flex his chords for the main song titled Ghan Tan Nan.
the Album has around 5 songs and 1 theme music. Vishal Bharadwaj is in form and how. He completely reinvents himself with this one. He completely goes away from Maqbool and Omkaara and rediscovers the gangster genre even in his music. The Opening song Dhan Tan nan is already a hit. A full high energy song sung by Vishal Dadlani & Sukhwinder singh, the pair gives a kickass song. .The music reminds of the theme from Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction..The lyrics by Vishal Bhardwaj is also superb..with lines like yehi kehte hai..yehi sunte hai…jo bhi jaata hai.. jaata hai..Woh phir se aata nahi.. it gives an effect to the song…
Fatak another good number which starts predictably, but when the guitar kicks in and takes the song to another level all together. Sukhwinder Singh along with Kailash Kher gives another number worth listening. Reminds me of Beedi in music..but with more modern touch to it…Lyrics is very mumbaiyya..Its the Vocals which gives the real effect to the song. Sukhwinder Singh also promotes CONDOMS in the song with the lyrics go: Bhawra aaya aayaa re, gun gun karta aayaa re … Yeh ishq nahih aasan, AIDS ka khatra hai … pathwar pehen kar jaana- yeh aag ka dariya hai. ..Social message in the song…..Fantastic….
The title song is equally fantastic as the first two. Subtle orchestration with Vishal Bhardwaj’s vocals…Simply Superb….This guy can sing….that also quite well….Reminds a lot of Naina of Omkara sorts full of metaphors…With Lyrics fromGulzaar saab…another must listen track….Mohit Chauhan sings Pehli baar mohabbat and does justice to the song. The way it has been sung & the music, it’s going to take your heart away….You gonna fall in mohabbat with this song….Raat ke dhai baje is a typical Vishal Bhardwaj’s type of music and song…sounds like an item number on likes of Namak with english words included….
Overall its an Album to own it…Like Omkara…Vishal Bhardwaj can top charts again with one of the tanticipated movies of the year…The songs are worth listening once with the Theme music already catching attention..A different Music Genre all together makes this Album a fantastic…
Deserves a 4 out of 5
