Kung Fu Panda 2- Movie Review- Bigger & Better

When was the last time you saw a sequel as good as the first one or even better. I don’t remember any truthfully after the Lord of the Rings Series. But hey here is something which is as good as the first part. Kung Fu Panda 2. Yeah Po the Panda is back. And he is definitely kicking some ass. DreamWorks gets the sequel formula right on the dot by building off the success of the original 2008 hit,the sequel delivers more laughs, better animation, and more fun. Also I am not a 3D fan, but after Avatar if any movie I suggest you to watch is 3D then its this one.  The beautiful landscape of China, the thrilling combat sequences will make your 3D experience just super fun. You be an adult or a kid you will have lots of fun.

So the Dragon Warrior Po(Jack Black)  and the Furious Five Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Monkey (Jackie Chan), Viper (Luvy Liu), Crane (David Cross), and Mantis (Seth Rogen) are keeping the Valley of Peace at Peace.  But, Po’s life takes a turn when the village is threatened by a white Peacock,Lord Shen(Gary Oldman’s ), who is determined to destroy China and kung fu. The warriors must fight to win back kung fu and Po needs to fight Lord Shen as well as get Inner Peace to know the secret about his mysterious past. And what we get is an awesome experience.

So what is different in Kung Fu Panda 2. First of all the intro session is simply brilliant. The movie starts with a hand-drawn animation sequence which is finely merged with overall sequence throughout the movie. The delicate paper-theater tradition rendered in 3D tells the opening sequence tells Lord Shen’s origin story in a brilliant way keeping the Chinese tradition as the base.  The 3D animation brings in the vivid watercolor palette to gorgeous landscapes. and the fight scenes with tracking shots are just simply superb.Filmmaker Jennifer Yuh and her team of animators, working from a screenplay by Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger delivers a fast and furious action cartoon flick. Gary Oldman’s  menacing voicework as Lord Shin is very good and the glaring red-eye motif marks a signature of the character’s design. Jack Black is as awesome as ever. Other new cast members includes Masters Croc(Jean-Claude Van Damme), Oxen(Dennis Haysbert) and Rhino, played by Victor Garber. Lord Shen is designed by Nico Marlet and has done a wonderful job of creating an elegant but dangerous peacock. The only thing was that Lord Shen was not as strong as the last villain we had in the first part.

Another very impressive thing was the quality of humor in the movie. Whether its Po’s Skadoosh or just his tumbling around or Cranes jaw Dropping timing, nothing feels repetitive which we missed in another sequel released this weekend in Hangover 2. With KungFu Panda 2, they prove it that you don’t need to go vulgar or over the top to make people laugh. You need that timing. The comedy here is slapstic but not over the top. Its intelligent and even improved jokes. Even the romantic subplot between Po and Tigeress is sweet. The movie did sound very hindi movie like towards the end where Po comes to know of his parents and they show the parents alive and feeling the same about their son. I don’t think we need to see Po going to get their parents etc. in upcoming sequels if any.

Overall Kung Fu Panda 2 is a joy ride. Soaring high-angled camerawork, quick pace and scenes filled with fluid artistry with good-natured humor abounds makes it appealing for all. The movie takes the film production quality and entertainment quality a notch higher. The 3D adds to the mystical environment of China with oversized temples, magic lanterns, calligraphy..in short everything. Fight sequences are bigger and better. Po..well not bigger but surely a better fighter ;) and surely the most loved Panda which everyone would like to see again..and again..SKA2OOSH

Rating- 4.5 out of 5
